报告摘要:

Carbon-12 plays a crucial role as a building block of organic life, and its first 0⁺ excited state near the 3α threshold, known as the Hoyle state, serves as a key gateway to heavier element synthesis during stellar nucleosynthesis. The complex physics of ¹²C has posed a significant challenge for nuclear ab initio studies. In this work, we present a model-independent density map of the nuclear states of ¹²C, utilizing the ab initio framework of Nuclear Lattice Effective Field Theory. Our findings reveal that the Hoyle state, though long enigmatic, consists of a "bent-arm" or obtuse triangular configuration of alpha clusters. We further identify all low-lying nuclear states of ¹²C as having intrinsic shapes formed by three alpha clusters, arranged in either an equilateral or obtuse triangular geometry. Additionally, the states featuring equilateral triangle configurations exhibit a dual interpretation as particle-hole excitations within the mean-field framework.

申时行,北京航空航天大学副教授。2017年博士毕业于北京大学,先后在香港大学、米兰大学以及德国于利希研究中心从事博士后研究。长期致力于原子核第一性原理研究,在相对论第一性原理计算和原子核形状的第一性原理描述方面取得了重要成果。在Nature Communications、Physical Review Letters等国际顶级学术期刊上发表论文17篇。
